11 years going, Honda Day brought yet another great event. Compared to the last few years, I have to say this year was a lot more organized and well run. Granted arriving at the venue at 6am, there was hardly any traffic getting to the track. Great job and I hope this continues in the future. Another change this year was the addition of a VIP car show section. Competitors, prior to the event, had to submit photos of their car in order to be entered into this section and I thought this was great. It was nice to have the more elite class of cars in one section rather than to have to weed them out throughout the 800 other cars that attend the show. On the other side of the bleachers was some exciting drag racing. 8 second turbo civics and 9 second all motor cars running down the 1320. I can remember when I first started going out to races, if you were running 10’s or even 11’s, that was considered Fast. Anyways, congrats to OGS for putting on another great event and putting together a fantastic give-a-way car. For those that wasn’t able to make it, click the photos above to jump to the gallery.
The Arco meet isn’t your typical meet where you expect thousands or even hundreds of cars to show up. It’s actually more like a gathering of friends just kickin back and having a few beers together. This year however, they were taking donations for a good friend that recently had their car stolen to get him back on his feet. I look forward to this meet every year because the quality of cars that come out aren’t what you normally see at other meets or even shows. Check out the photos and I hope to see some more quality cars come out next year.
The Fresh Meet was held on May 6th in Union, NJ. This Spring event is the first meet for 2012 and turned out to be a huge success dispite the local police forcing the event to shut down early… Big ups to the Fresh Meet crew for putting together a great event and I am looking forward to covering the next meet this summer. It didn’t surprise me to get a call from a friend on Sunday morning at 8:30 saying that the car show was sold out. Yes only a half hour after the show “technically” started, 600 cars had already been entered into the car show. Throughout the day, those that couldn’t get into the car show setup what looked like a meet in the parking lot. It’s a good thing that in the off season, Atco Raceway had expanded their parking lot to accommodate additional parking for spectators.

It wouldn’t be a Raceway Park Fall Nationals Event if it didn’t have crazy weather, fast cars, tons of break downs, hot cars and scantily clad women on stage dancing around. It was great to see Gary Gardella back on the drag strip racing again but personally, I was quite upset that Chris Rado wasn’t able to make it out to the event to have their grudge match. It’s never a dull moment at Raceway Park events and what a way to close out the season. I can’t wait until next years Spring Nationals to see how this scene continually progresses. Enjoy the photos!
